There are two major methods of writing a thesis: inductive and deductive. 

Inductive Thesis Writing Method: The inductive method starts with a general statement of your problem and then narrows it down to specific questions that you can answer. This approach is sometimes called the “hypothesis-driven” method because it begins with a hypothesis (a proposed explanation). You may use this method if you don’t yet know how many variables are involved in your study or if there are multiple possible explanations for the phenomenon you are researching. 

Deductive – The deductive approach begins with specific questions and narrows them down to a general statement of your problem. This method is also called “theory-driven” because it starts with a theory (a body of knowledge) that provides an explanation for the phenomenon you are researching.
