What are the 7 steps in writing a summary?

The most important parts of writing a good summary are as follows:

(1) read the entire original source document carefully.
(2) find out what the author’s main point or argument was
(3) write down all of the key evidence provided by the author to support their main point
(4) put the original document aside
(5) then you can go ahead and write about it from your own viewpoint using your own words
(6) limit your new summary so that it is no larger than ten to fifteen percent of the total length of the original document
(7) review to be sure that your summary accurately represents the material from which it was written and that it clearly conveys this information.
