PhD in Computer Science involves rigorous research work and extensive coursework which takes almost 3-5 years to complete. It is a doctoral degree which focuses on the development and testing of software and software systems. It involves working with mathematical concepts, data analysis and security, algorithms and computational theories.  

The eligibility criteria for a PhD in Computer Science involves a master’s degree from a recognized university with an aggregate of 55% or above in computer science and related subjects. In addition to that, an individual must appear for entrance exams like UGC NET, GATE, GPAT, IIT JAM, etc. which are applicable for a successful admission to PhD in Computer Science.  

Some of the career options in a PhD in Computer Science involves 

  • Academia and Teaching: One can become a professor, lecturer, or an assistant professor to guide the students in the university and also help them in their research work. 
  • Industry Research and Development: One can work in some of the top tech companies including Google Research, Microsoft, Intel, etc. in roles like Research Assistant, ML/AI Engineer, Cybersecurity Expert and much more. 
  • Government and Policy Roles: One can work under government research programs, defense technology, space research centers. One can also serve as a Technology Policy Advisor in areas like cybersecurity, digital governance, etc.
