Is a phd the same as a doctorate degree?

A PhD Degree and Doctorate degree are not the same. PhD degree stands for Doctor of Philosophy. It is a specific type of doctorate degree. All doctorates are not PhDs. While on the other hand, Doctorate is a general term which is used for the highest level of academic and professional degree.
