Finally, the wait is over. The National Testing Agency has officially confirmed the date of NEET UG 2026 Re-exam which will take place on Sunday, 21st June 2026; simultaneously across both locations in India as well as outside. This announcement follows the cancellation of the original NEET UG 2026 exam scheduled for 03rd of May, due to an unprecedented nationwide paper leakage scandal. If you were one of the approximately 22 million+ students who sat for the NEET UG Exam, here is what you should be knowing about this at present.
What Happened: The NEET UG 2026 Paper Leak
In an ongoing case of corruption, the NEET UG 2026 exams were held in more than 5,400 centers in India and overseas (in 14 cities) on May 3.
The “Guess Paper”, contained over 400 questions nearly 120 of them identical for biology and chemistry subjects; however, within just hours of the exams, this “guess paper” was shared via WhatsApp and Telegram.
A whistleblower had tipped off the authorities about the source of the leaks, and the investigations into the matter quickly identified where the leak came from. It was said that the leak started in Nashik, Maharashtra and it then spread throughout Haryana; and the leak was printed and distributed in several districts of Rajasthan namely, Sikar, Jaipur, and Jamwa Ramgarh; and finally the leaked material was received by many students in Bihar, Kerala, Jammu and several other states.
An FIR has been filed against five individuals who are suspected of involvement in the organized crime surrounding the leak of confidential examination materials. The CBI is investigating this case as well as all others that may be connected to this case. The FIR contains charges relating to Criminal Conspiracy, Cheating, Criminal Breach of Trust, and Destruction of Evidence. There are also additional charges brought under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and Public Examination Prevention of Unfair Means Act, 2024.
On May 11th a Delhi Court allowed the CBI to take 7 days of custody of these 5 suspects due to their alleged participation in an “organized crime syndicate” for financial gain to provide the students with confidential copies of examination questions prior to taking the exams.
In addition, a student at a private medical school in Southern Kerala in his/her first year and originally from Rajasthan, was interviewed because he/she allegedly sent the test questions to other students.
On May 12, the National Testing Agency declared that it would cancel the original scheduled date for the exams. A decision regarding rescheduling the exam date was made at a high-level meeting attended by the Union Education Minister.
