GATE 2027 Notification Out: Exam Dates, Registration & Syllabus

GATE Notification 2027 has been published. On 20th of July 2026, IIT Madras has announced GATE 2027 Information Brochure and official website gate2027.iitm.ac.in. GOAPS registration for GATE 2027 begins on 14 Aug 2026 and ends by 21 Sep 2026 without a penalty for being late; however, there are penalty-based options available until Sept. 30. GATE Examination 2027 will be administered via computer at testing centers across six consecutive days: Feb. 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, and 21 of 2027, during one of two possible time slots each day. The main difference from last years examination format is that there will now be a new “Robotics and Automation” test in addition to a revised syllabus, revised XE/XH/XL paper codes, live facial identification and DigiLocker for checking documents.

GATE 2027 Exam Date and Schedule

The GATE 2027 Exam Dates are scheduled for February of 2027 and will occur over six days: February 6th thru February 21st. Each exam date is divided into two sessions; The first session will be held during the morning hours with an opening time of 09:30 am – 12:30 pm. This is referred to as the “Forenoon” session. The second session is scheduled for the afternoon and can start anytime after 02:30 pm – 05:30 pm.

GATE 2027 registration process happens entirely online through GOAPS 2027 — the GATE Online Application Processing System.

2. Register on GOAPS with basic personal details and create your login credentials
3. Fill in academic details, category, and choose your paper(s)
4. Upload photograph, signature, and category/eligibility documents as specified
5. Complete live facial verification — a new requirement introduced this year
6. Verify documents through DigiLocker integration, also new for 2027
7. Pay the application fee and submit

How do you register for GATE 2027? You should follow those steps by the time that application deadline passes. In addition to this, even though the deadline has passed for the standard process of registering, there are still opportunities to get in and submit your application if it gets done prior to 30 September 2026; however, you will need to pay an additional fee.

Application Fee Structure

The GATE 2027 application fee is charged per selected paper:

Female, SC, ST, and PwD candidates: ₹1,000 per paper (regular period)

All other categories: typically higher, in line with previous cycles

Furthermore, candidates can apply for one paper, or up to two papers if their chosen combination is on the approved list of paper pairs.

Correction Window

The candidate can modify their GATE 2027 application on-line from 14 Oct. 2026 to 21 Oct. 2026. The candidates will have an opportunity to modify some portion of their application (like preferred test centers; papers that they wish to take; and/or uploaded documentation), but modification may also require payment of additional charges. Before you do this, please consult the instruction sheet for the GATE 2027 application in order to find out what portions of your application are available to be modified.

How Many Papers Are There in GATE 2027?

The GATE 2027 has 30 papers. There will be 30 papers across all of the engineering, science, architectural and humanities disciplines.

Are there any NEW papers in GATE 2027?

Yes, the new paper that was added this year is called “Robotics and Automation” (RA). The Robotics and Automation field has grown over the past few decades in both academia and industry; therefore, it was necessary to add a new paper to reflect the growing interest in robotic and automation engineering. Also, note that the section names for the XE, XH and XL paper codes were changed from last years, so if you have studied these papers in previous years, please study the new version of the brochure prior to choosing your sections.

What are ALL the papers offered in GATE 2027?

There are 30 papers available. The 30 papers cover all of the standard engineering fields (Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering etc.) — all of the science fields (Physics, Chemistry, Math etc.), and now also includes the additional paper of “Robotics and Automation”, which brings the number up to 30.
