JEE Advanced 2026 Exam Timing and Pattern
The JEE Advanced 2026 exam timing runs across two shifts on the same day:
. Paper 1: Morning shift
. Paper 2: Afternoon shift
Both papers are compulsory. If you skip one, you will not be ranked. Each paper is 3 hours (4 hours for PWD candidates with compensatory time).
Computer-Based Test (CBT) format exams are the only option for this test – it will be taken at a variety of locations throughout India and some international locations.
Physics, Chemistry, and Math are covered by each test section. The different formats of questions include single correct Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQ), multiple correct MCQ, Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions, and Matching-Type questions. Each year there is variation in how many questions there will be in total (and what percentage of those will have points deducted from your score), but typically IIT Roorkee will provide that information on the computer-based test information brochure.
Generally, you can expect about 32-38 questions covering all three subjects.
Negative marks apply to certain question types. Numerical answers are usually free of penalty.
JEE Advanced 2026 Syllabus
The JEE Advanced 2026 syllabus has been released by IIT Roorkee on jeeadv.ac.in with no changes from the previous year.
Physics: Mechanics (kinematics, laws of motion, work-energy, rotational motion), Waves and Sound, Optics (ray and wave), Thermodynamics, Electrostatics, Current Electricity, Magnetic Effects, Electromagnetic Induction, Modern Physics (photoelectric effect, atomic structure, radioactivity, semiconductors)
Chemistry: Physical Chemistry (atomic structure, thermodynamics, equilibrium, electrochemistry, kinetics), Inorganic Chemistry (periodic table, coordination compounds, p/d-block elements), Organic Chemistry (reaction mechanisms, named reactions, hydrocarbons, functional group chemistry, biomolecules, polymers)
Mathematics: Algebra (complex numbers, matrices, determinants, probability), Calculus (limits, continuity, differentiation, integration, differential equations), Vectors and 3D Geometry, Trigonometry, Coordinate Geometry (circles, parabola, ellipse, hyperbola)
The syllabus depth is noticeably higher than JEE Main. Conceptual clarity matters more than ratta learning.
JEE Advanced 2026 Admit Card
The JEE Advanced 2026 admit card will be available from 11th May 2026 at 5:00 PM until 17th May 2026 at 2:30 PM on jeeadv.ac.in.

JEE Advanced 2026 Result Date
Results will be declared by IIT Roorkee on 1st June 2026 on jeeadv.ac.in. The scorecard will include subject-wise marks, total marks, All India Rank, and category ranks. Top qualifiers will be eligible for JoSAA counselling for IIT seat allocation.
How to Crack JEE Advanced 2026: Preparation Tips
You have from now to 17th May. Here is what matters
Concepts vs. Shortcuts. In my experience, JEE Advanced often “breaks” conventional ways of solving problems. Therefore, a student who can understand WHY formulas work will generally perform better than a student who simply knows HOW to use them.
Old Exams. There is no better way to practice than with old exams. The last ten years of JEE Advanced Papers represent a patterned repetition of question types, difficulty distributions, and most importantly, trap types. Take these past year exams under timed conditions as well.
Paper 2 is important. I have seen many students over-preparing for Paper 1 and significantly down-play the importance of Paper 2. Remember that both papers are weighted equally in determining your ranking.
Full Mock Tests. Sustained concentration for six hours is mentally draining. Try to simulate the full examination format and take at least 4 – 5 full mock tests prior to the real exam date. This will give you an idea of your stamina.
Addressing Weak Chapters. At this point in time (less than a month away), DO NOT begin studying any NEW material. Identify your weaker, heavier weight chapters – usually Optics, Organic Chemistry, and Calculus. Study these chapters thoroughly.
Example Study Plan Structure:
1. 5 hours of focused review each day.
2. Take 2 full length mock examinations per week.
3. Review all previous errors found in your weekly test analyses.
For students who need structured guidance on subject-wise preparation or want expert feedback on mock test performance, Aimlay’s academic counselling team has supported JEE aspirants through the final preparation stretch — from study plan design to post-result college selection.
