PhD in Electrical Engineering is a research-based program that involves researching new technologies in the fields of Electrical Machines, Semiconductors and Diodes, Electric Circuit and much more. The course duration for a PhD in Electrical Engineering is 3-5 years, depending on the university.

PhD Admission in IISc Electrical Engineering offers only a single phase of interview and does not extend it to two or more rounds. Candidates are shortlisted based on their entrance exam and admission forms and then are called in for a one-to-one interview. The interview takes place between two committees who handle different specializations.

Committee I: This committee consists of research areas including Power Electronics, High Voltage Engineering & Power Apparatus or Power Systems.

Committee II: The committee overlooks the research areas including Signal Processing, Image Processing, Control Systems, Computer Vision, Pattern Recognition or Machine Learning.

Unlike the other departments like CeNSE,  the department of Electrical Engineering does not hold more than one stage of interview. In the single interview the candidates are expected to present themselves along with their research proposal and theoretical knowledge.
