The number of honorary degrees awarded per year varies by country. In the United States, there are about 6,400 doctorates and 3,000 masters degrees given out each year. 

• The UK awards about 1,000 honorary doctorates every year (and is home to approximately 20 universities with more than 50 years of history). 
• Canada awards about 500 honorary doctorates annually; it’s also home to 11 universities with more than 100 years under their belt—including McGill University in Montreal and York University in Toronto. 
• India awards about 300 honorary doctorates each year; its most famous university, the University of Delhi, was founded in 1922. The country also has more than 8,000 colleges and universities.
