A PhD in Mechanical Engineering focuses more on research, coursework and thesis writing. In the first year, to strengthen the research foundations, an individual is taught about important concepts including Advanced Thermodynamics and Fluid Mechanics, Robotics and Control Systems, Finite Element Analysis along with Research Methodology. One the coursework is done; a qualifying examination is taken to test the individuals. It is only then that the research starts researching their proposal, literature review, thesis writing and prepares for their viva voce.
